Therapeutic Preschool

At Axon's Children Centre, we believe there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all programme for children with special education needs. To ensure real progress in enhancing school readiness, children with special needs especially should be encouraged to learn in their individual ways. *Our school is open for children aged 3 and above.

The early years of education are indeed crucial and we believe a holistic approach is the way to go.

By combining playful and experiential learning with a tailored curriculum that is designed for your special needs child to learn at their own pace, we are able to focus on ensuring support in their overall learning development including social, emotional and cognitive development.

Play-based learning inspired by Finland's HEI Schools curriculum and outdoor learning

The Finnish early childhood education is world-famous for a reason. In addition to teaching academic skills, this curriculum encourages children to learn through interaction with the people and environment around them. Learning through play can foster engagement with multiple brain areas, leading to strenghtened motor skills and more.

A Parent's Guide to Axon Therapeutic Preschool

Axon Therapeutic Preschool programme is best for whom?

. We are a special education preschool, aiming to help parents with preparing their children for school.

. The Axon Therapeutic Preschool programme in particular is best for children with special needs such as autism, Down Syndrome, dyslexia, ADHD, learning disabilties, speech delay, language impairment, and behaviour problems.

How does your programme support the learning style of an autistic child?

. Autistic children are often visual learners, and they typically enjoy hands-on activities.

. But at the end of the day, there's no one-size-fits-all solution as every child is different. This is why our curriculum places an emphasis on the importance of an individualised education plan. This allows us to cater to every child's unique needs, while providing a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for them.

How do you develop an Individualised Education Plan (IEP) for each child?

We use the AEPS-3 toolkit which basically stands for Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System for Infants and Children, Third Edition. Considered as most powerful assessment and curriculum system for ensuring real progress for every young child, this toolkit is backed by more than 40 years of studies, led by early intervention visionary Dr. Diane Bricker and the Early Intervention Management and Research Group (EMRG).

Why is the Finland's HEI Schools curriculum so popular and how can it help my child thrive?

. The HEI Schools concept is inspired by Finnish Early Childhood Education, where it encourages children to be curious and creative as they interact and explore the world around them.

. Children are also invited to participate and make their own decisions in an environment that goes beyond the classroom.

. This in turn, contribute to their overall development as they learn skills such as socio-emotional competence, verbal and bodily expression, and more, which are essential skills to learn as your child prepare for school.

. In short, the HEI Schools curriculum actually addresses all aspects of a child’s growth, and not just their academic advancements.

Your site mentioned that "a holistic approach is the way to go". What does a holistic approach mean exactly?

Going holistic basically means recognising that children are unique individuals and placing emphasis on the individual child, as well as their strength and interests.
